The AAA will feature a spotlight artist every month along with a group show highlighting the works of their artist members. Officially opening May 27, 2016 the AAA will also host an opening reception for the exhibition that night from 5:00-7:00 pm. The exhibit will run from May 27 to June 28, 2016.
About the Artists
This exhibition will mark the 26th year that the mother-daughter pair have exhibited together, their first time being in 1990. The duo has drawn insight and inspiration from each other and they often collaborate on paintings. Amy stated, “My Mom [Judy] took a lot of art classes, and my Dad is very creative. There was always a lot of art around the home.” This family creativity helped to foster the artistic talents of both Amy and Judy.
Judy Guglielmo has been a resident of Plattsburgh for the last 46 years and states that the beauty of Lake Champlain primarily fuels her love of the area. By trade Judy Guglielmo is a real estate agent for local agency, Fesette Reality, but she has studied fine art since her days in high school and college. Judy has been featured in numerous art exhibits throughout the years, including locations such as the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Depot Theatre, the Adirondack Arts Association, The Strand Center for the Arts, the Adirondack Artists Guild, Clinton Community College, and SUNY Plattsburgh. Her choice of medium is watercolor and Judy explained why: “I love the free flow of the medium [watercolor], the non-labored expression I achieve as I capture a mood. […] I try to combine all that I see – shapes, colors, and composition to express a total feeling.”
Award-winning painter and printmaker from Plattsburgh, NY, Amy Guglielmo is well-known for her popular art classes and children’s books. She studied art at Plattsburgh State University, Colorado College and The Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico. She is co-author of the Touch the Art children’s series (Sterling 2006, 2009, 2010) and is a freelance writer for various publications, including Adirondack Life magazine. A former teacher and the founder of Via Verde School of Art in New York City, Amy is currently the gallery director for Depot Theatre and serves on the advisory board for Adirondack Art Association and the Saranac Review literary magazine. She recently received publicity for leading the 30 City Community Center’s “Outside Art: Plattsburgh Public Art Project,” receiving two grants so far to bring public art to downtown Plattsburgh.
